Therapy and/or Psychiatry: Can come in many forms including psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, life coaching, group therapy, and spiritual counseling.
-
• Spiritual Services and Studies: Agape, Self Realization Fellowship, and Buddhist Temples all hold various types of services in the area. Individuals are welcome to explore their interest in spiritual practices and principals.
-
• Religious Services: If religion is an important part of your recovery, Malibu and Santa Monica are full of various types of congregations. Service types and times can be provided.
-
• 12 Step Meetings: There are meetings we regularly attend in Malibu, Santa Monica, and Brentwood if individuals choose to participate. These can be a great way to make new friends and create a support group, which is often crucial during early sobriety. Having a network of people who are experiencing similar emotions and struggles can make the process less difficult. Many times there can be negative or depressing stories or “shares,” however, you can gain a lot through making the experience about learning from others rather than focusing on differences. There is always something to be learned from a meeting. Having an open mind is key to personally benefiting from other’s experiences.
-
• Individual Step Work: Workbooks can be used to help with the process and understanding of the 12 steps.
-
• Working with a Sponsor: A sponsor’s primary responsibility is to help an individual work through the 12 steps and support them in applying the principles to daily life. Furthermore, they provide explanation, support, and guidance, while building a support system.
-
• Reading: Recovery books, Tao of Recovery, AA Big Book, Narcotics Anonymous, Eckhart Tolle, Boundaries Workshop, Step workbooks, and Spiritual Recovery books are all recommended readings that can be supportive in the recovery process.
-
• Journal Writing: Writing is a positive way to process emotions and reflect on our thoughts. Free writing can often allow our true thoughts and feelings to be revealed, processed, and clarified.
-
• Yoga and Meditation: Yoga will teach you to come into awareness of your breath and your body, while meditation helps to center and clear the mind. Yoga is offered daily at the house.
-
• Body Work: Weekly, in house, massages are offered. We also encourage acupressure, acupuncture, thai massage,Reiki, and energy work.
-
• Beach Activities: We have a private key to the exclusive Little Dume Beach, which has some of the best surf conditions in Los Angeles. Surfing lessons are offered by recovery staff. Kayaking and fishing are also available.
-
• Community Service: Volunteer work is helpful in the recovery process. We offer resources to do community service locally. Individuals or the group can choose to work with a wide variety of populations, including animals, children, elderly, homeless, victims of domestic violence, and/or any others of interest.
Selecting a treatment center or drug rehabs is one of the most important decisions for those seeking to get into recovery or use the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous or Cocaine Anonymous. Few of us know what to look for in a quality rehab program or sober living home and not all drug rehabilitation centers are alike. Each drug rehab has its own program options, staff qualifications, credentials, cost, and effectiveness and all of that can be referenced on SoberNexus. Our blog also has information on addiction and recovery. Our new blog is loaded with education and information of alcoholism, treatment and substance abuse. | ||
